Buddy System has created an Immigration Legal Aid Fund to further support our community members during COVID-19.
With COVID-19 exacerbating financial hardships, Buddy System hopes to be able to uplift our clients with well-rounded, sustainable support, in addition to food relief, during this hard time.
In response to our clients' most pressing needs, we've created an Immigration Legal Aid Fund.
A generous donor has graciously agreed to match all contributions towards this relief fund.
Contributions will go directly toward supporting immigrants with sponsorship of legal aid fees
during this unprecedented time. All donations are tax deductible.
Consider signing up for a monthly donation to support all Buddy System endeavors.
Buddy System MIA is an entirely volunteer-run nonprofit committed to supporting the most vulnerable in our community with sustainable resources and direct aid. Throughout the pandemic, we have served over 1000 people -- most of whom are homebound and struggling financially -- with access to food assistance. Your tax-deductible donation will go directly to supporting your South Florida community.
A Personal Story
One of the incredible gifts of providing meals for over 1000 people in South Florida is getting the chance to hold space for their stories. One of these stories belongs to Angela:
As COVID-19 permeated the country, hardworking single-mother Angela, who had been living and working in the US for ten years, was denied her path to citizenship when her green card expired. Confused and overwhelmed by the legal system, she tried relentlessly to get through to organizations and government agencies that could help her. Upon first hearing her story back in March, Buddy System was able to connect her with pro-bono legal representation. As a result, we are thrilled to announce that her son was able to naturalize and her case is being reviewed! Unfortunately, immigration fees are steep and, while she might have been able to afford them during “normal” times, Angela is among thousands of Miamians who are currently struggling to afford groceries -- those additional immigration fees are insurmountable right now.
Angela will be one of many recipients of our newly instituted Immigration Legal Aid Fund.
